Love (vol. 5, no. 12)

Here are a few things I’m sharing this month:

1. Question:

  • “What does it mean to love? It means to be sensitive to life, to things, to persons, to feel for everything and everyone to the exclusion of nothing and no one.” – Anthony de Mello (The Way to Love)

2. Quote:

  • “For nothing is fixed, forever and forever and forever, it is not fixed; the earth is always shifting, the light is always changing, the sea does not cease to grind down rock. Generations do not cease to be born, and we are responsible to them because we are the only witnesses they have. The sea rises, the light fails, lovers cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the moment we break faith with one another, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out.” – James Baldwin (Nothing Personal)

3. Poem:

Excerpt from Selected Books of the Beloved by Gregory Orr:

Note to self: remember
What Emerson said
Of Thoreau—
That he loved the low
In nature:
                 Muskrats
And crickets, suckers
And frogs.
                  Not stars.

Songs of the carnal,
Songs of what we are.

4. Something inspiring (for teachers and everyone):

  • “Someone will probably love you for who you are, not just for who you labor to be.” – Stephanie Burt (from her poem Prayer for Werewolves) – in Rewild School we call those someones our tribe.

5. New Blogs in my “Football is ________” series:
