Manual Labor and Temporal Accessibility (This is the Work – Vol. 1, No. 1)

Hey Everyone.

Here are a few things I’m sharing this month:

  1. I’ve added two new posts to my “Manual Labor” blog series:

2. In preparation for my first week of on-line classes, I have developed:

  • Do’s and Don’ts for Zoom – I wrote this for my students. It details what to do before, during and after a zoom session. However, I’ve found myself using it as well.
  • Remote Teaching Checklist – This details the steps I take to ensure a secure meeting on zoom and what I hope to do before, during and after a zoom teaching session. This is a living document. And, after just one week of on-line classes, I’ve found some things that I’ll tweak on this list soon.

3. A couple of things that inspired me:

  • This song by Leisure “Slipping Away
  • Made to be Broken” from This American Life. Its discussion of “temporal accessibility” and the lack thereof for those who stutter was an incredible reminder of how much of the human experience I will never experience and how I must resist the temptation of placing my experience of the center of human experience.

Thanks so much. And, have a great day! – shawn
